On occasion of the site-specific commission ‘Stranger in London’ by Carlos Irijalba, an In Conversation took place on February 13th 2019 at the private residence of Launch Pad founder, Sarah Elson, between the artist and Paul Hobson, Director, Modern Art Oxford.

Carlos Irijalba (b 1979), a former resident at the Rijksakademie of Amsterdam 2013/2014, graduated from the Basque Country University and UDK Berlin in 2004. He is a recipient of numerous international awards, including the Guggenheim Bilbao Photography Grant (2003), the Marcelino Botín Art Grant (2007/08), and the Shifting Foundation Grant. More recently, Irijalba has been included the Guangdong Triennial (2017), and in group shows at CAB Art Center, Brussels; Centro Botin, Santander, Spain; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, Croatia.

Paul Hobson has been the Director of Modern Art Oxford since September 2013. Prior to this, he was Director of Contemporary Arts Society following senior roles at The Showroom, the Serpentine Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts in London. Hobson read History at Oxford University and completed post-graduate studies in aesthetics and contemporary visual theory.
