Bulgarian artist and director George Stamenov (b. Sofia, 1988) examines the immersive possibilities of storytelling by challenging the dogmas of contemporary film making. His short films are distinctively Eastern European in aesthetic and character. Employing computer graphic imagery as his primary medium, he renders the uncanny side of a simple event or movement in a composition, exaggerating its insignificance. Stamenov completed undergraduate studies at Willem De Kooning Academie, Rotterdam, and postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art, London. Recent exhibitions include New Contemporaries, South London gallery, London (2018, 2019); NOT A LIVE SHOW, Bonington Gallery, Nottingham (2018); Working Projects - Inhabiting the Dome, Whiteleys Shopping Center, London (2018); Water Tower Festival Bulgaria (2012). Stamenov lives and works in London.
